This Week In Radio 28/8/2021

Lots happens in the radio industry each week so here’s a summary of the week we just enjoyed.

Here’s what happened

Beat 102 103 launched a new breakfast show this week. Niall Power and Shonagh Lyons host the new show with some segments such as the daily dilemma remaining from the old format. Best of luck to the new Beat breakfast team from us at Radio Land.

1,866, that’s the number of staff employed by RTÉ in 2020. The broadcaster released some stats during the week which give us some interesting insights to pay at the broadcaster. Remember that the below numbers don’t include contractors. Also note the below info is basic salaries only.

  • 117 people are earning big bucks at over €100,000 last year. Breaking that down slightly, 22 staff earned between €150,000 and €250,000, with the other 95 only getting between €100,000 and €150,000.
  • 176 of the staff got between €80,000 and €100,000.
  • 554 people got between €60,000 and €80,000. Not bad, not bad at all.
  • 745 of the staff (the largest group) earned between €40,000 and €60,000, with 274 earning less than €40,000

So there you have it. You can find other interesting stats in the linked article.

A message to RTÉ

I’m available for work! I have many skills and I’m quite affordable relatively speaking. Imagine that as a Tinder bio, anyway. If your interested just use the contact page or just message @davidredmondradio on Instagram.

And finally this week Kilian Pettit is leaving Red FM. Kilian spoke to Radio Land Ahead of his last show tomorrow.

I loved hosting The Late Shift, got to play lots of great music and do some silly skits and bits in between the songs. I’ve got one more show on Sunday morning from 10am, very proud of that show too, most listened to show ever for RedFM on a Sunday. I’ve been nominated for a few IMROs – won a silver last year – so that’s one of my happiest moments. Honestly though the best memories are the funny calls with listeners, from on air workouts to dog weddings – could be anything! I plan to do more film/video work going forward so follow me on Instagram and Twitter @kilianpettit I might pop up on radio again sometime, who knows!
