This Week In Radio 23/10/2021

Lots happens in the radio industry each week so here’s a summary of the week we just enjoyed.

Here’s what happened

Ireland’s Classic Hits have announced that they will begin broadcasting the Kim Wilde 80s Show each day from 6pm. The show, which has been in syndication since 2013 is broadcasting on a number of stations around the world from studios in London.

It’s really interesting to see an Irish station broadcast an international show in a peak Time slot, and it raises the question of will other stations follow this lead. While not producing your own show certainly reduces costs, it’s uncharted waters as far as listenership goes.

It’s going to be a real test of how much the word local means to an Irish audience and it will certainly be interesting to watch.

Halloween FM returned this week to make radio that little bit more scary for the next few days. The station, run by the team behind Christmas FM, announced in an Instagram post that they were back.

The station launched in 2019 and was sponsored by Fanta. The service returned last year as well with funding from the Costume shop who have returned as this years sponsors.

The station has plenty of prizes to give away so why not have a listen via the Radio Land listen page, if you dare.🎃 your not scared are you?

And finally this week 2FM had a blast popping some balloons. It was all part of birthday celebrations for Harvey Norman who turned 18. Eventually, Erin who happened to be in the bathroom of a Dublin bar at the time, won a €5000 voucher when Balloon Number10 was popped.

Congrats to Erin on the big win and well done to Harvey Norman for continuing to support radio.
