Lots happens in the radio industry each week so here’s a summary of the week we just enjoyed.
Here’s what happened
Does the radio industry need to rethink drivetime? with more and more people working from home, how do drivetime news shows like those on Radio 1 , Newstalk and TodayFM need to adapt? That question is asked in an interesting article for the Irish Times this week. What do you think can be done to evolve news shows for this new normal? Let us know on our Twitter.
RTE are reportedly suffering a brain drain of Irish language speakers. Following the redundancy scheme offered to try reduce costs, many Irish speakers apparently left and this is causing difficulties for management. I got an O2 in ordinary level Irish for the leaving cert so I might be able to read the news if they provide it in sraith pictiúr form. I’d probably need six months coaching for each Bulletin but look, it’s an option.
And finally this week we want to say thanks. Radio Land launched in October last year so we aren’t even a year in yet, but this week you helped us hit two big milestones. Not only did the website hit a thousand lifetime views this week but we also crossed the 100 followers mark on Instagram. if you have visited just once or come back each week, thanks so much and hopefully we can keep the industry up to date going forward.
And that’s the summary for this week. Come back to radio land next week for more radio news📻 and be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram for extra stories.
